The nickel(II) complexes [Ni(nmedtc)(PPh(3))(2)]ClO4 (1) and [Ni(nmedt
c)dppe]BPh(4) . CH2Cl2 (2) [nmedtc = N-methyl,N-ethanoldithiocarbamate
, dppe = 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane] were prepared and character
ized by electronic and IR spectra, and their structures determined by
X-ray crystallography. In both complexes the NiS2P2 chromophore is pla
nar and the thioureide C-N has double bond character. Hydrogen bond in
teraction is observed in 1 between the ethanolic group and the perchlo
rate anion. Electronic and IR spectra confirm the planarity of the chr
omophores in both complexes and the contribution of the thioureide for
m in the molecular structure. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.
