In the paper a new fuzzy adaptive cancellation control scheme is prese
nted and compared with model-reference adaptive control. The basic par
r of the fuzzy adaptive cancellation controller is the inverse fuzzy m
odel, which is given in the form of a fuzzy relational matrix. The com
parison has been evaluated by implementation in a hear exchanger and a
real hydraulic pilot plant, which exhibit nonlinearity and rime-varia
nce. It is shown that in the case of processes which exhibit relativel
y simple dynamics, and are at the same time nonlinear and time varying
, the adaptive fuzzy cancellation controller is superior to the classi
