K. Hayes et al., MATURE STUDENTS IN HIGHER-EDUCATION .3. APPROACHES TO STUDYING IN ACCESS STUDENTS, Studies in higher education, 22(1), 1997, pp. 19-31
An investigation was carried out on approaches to learning among stude
nts completing Access courses at nine colleges of further education. T
he factor structure of their responses to a short form of the Approach
es to Studying Inventory was qualitatively different from that obtaine
d in a previous investigation of conventional university students. The
se results suggest that Access courses might inculcate an educational
culture that is inconsistent with the dominant culture within mainstre
am higher education.
