Heating C(5)Me(5)Co(CH2=CHR), (R=H, 60 degrees C; R = SiMe(3), 20 degr
ees C) in C6D6 leads to deuterium incorporation in the vinylic sites o
f the olefin ligands. This observation is interpreted in terms of reve
rsible oxidative addition of C6D6 to the 16-electron species [C(5)Me(5
)Co(CH2 = CHR)].
