A patient with posterior lens capsule rupture caused by blunt trauma a
nd in whom the anterior capsule and the remainder of the eyeball struc
ture was intact had phacoemulsification and aspiration of the crystall
ine lens with implantation of a posterior chamber intraocular lens. Fu
rther rupture of the capsule was prevented by the fibrosis, which tigh
tened the margin of the ruptured capsule. This case shows that blunt t
rauma can rupture the posterior lens capsule, leaving the anterior cap
sule intact.
