Abstract
The aim of this comment is to highlight the clear correspondence betwe en some existing experimental data on cooperative foraging in ants, wh ere it is known that mass recruitment is less flexible than combinatio ns of group and mass recruitment, and the idea of ''instigated'' decis ion making (Numaoka, 1995). A simple model accounting for the experime ntal observations is introduced, and its phase diagram is presented br iefly.
