A. Jacob et al., MONOVALENT COPPER LUMINESCENCE IN GLASSES OF BASE COMPOSITION LAMGB5O10 AND LILAP4O12, European journal of solid state and inorganic chemistry, 34(1), 1997, pp. 111-123
Parallel investigations of monovalent copper luminescence for Cu+-dope
d LaMgB5O10 and LiLaP4O12 glasses are reported. The spectroscopy and t
he excited states dynamics were investigated as a function of copper c
oncentration and temperature. The broad band blue emission observed fo
r both types of glasses arises from isolated Cu+ ions whereas an addit
ional orange-red fluorescence, detected only in the phosphate glasses
is attributed to (Cu+)(2) pairs. The stimulated emission cross-section
s calculated from spontaneous luminescence data are respectively : 4.0
5 10(-21) cm(2) for the berates and 2.26 10(-21)cm(2) for the phosphat
es. The characteristics of the luminescent properties are discussed as
regard to the glass composition.
