A time efficient method has been developed for separation and measurem
ent of Pb-210 and Pb-212 and its progenies in aerosol samples. After l
eaching, transferring to a sulphate system and adding a certain amount
of HCl, Po and Pi isotopes are extracted into a liquid scintillation
cocktail and measured simultaneously using pulse shape analysis. Pb-21
0 is measured from the ingrown Bi-210 after ca 2 weeks or measured dir
ectly in the aqueous phase. The lower limits of detection are 0.2 mBq
for Po-210 and Bi-212, and 0.5 mBq for Bi-210. (C) 1997 Elsevier Scien
