B. Padmavathy et al., BLASTOGENIC RESPONSE TO MITOGENS OF SPLENIC CELLS ISOLATED FROM RATS TREATED WITH AMIODARONE, Medical science research, 25(3), 1997, pp. 153-154
Administration of an antiarrhythmic agent, amiodarone, (175 mg kg(-1)
body weight/day) dissolved in water, through gavage for 3 weeks to rat
s markedly suppressed the blastogenic response of splenic cells to var
ious concentrations of the mitogens phytohaemagglutinin, concanavalin A
and lipopolysaccharide, as measured by [H-3]-thymidine incorporation.
This indicates the drug's ability to produce immunosuppression of spl
enic cells. The drug also caused marked changes in spleen morphology.
