The effect of varying the proportion of fine particulates in a polydis
perse phosphate slurry on pressure losses during hydraulic transportat
ion is described. Experimental data showing the benefits which can be
derived by tailoring the particle size distribution are presented. Reg
ions of optimal operation are identified for pipe diameters of 1, 1.5
and 2 inch for solids loadings of 1.45% by volume. New qualitative phe
nomenological correlations are proposed to describe the results. (C) 1
