H. Schluter et T. Muller, RABIES CONTROL IN GERMANY - RESULTS AND C ONCLUSIONS OF 10 YEARS OF VACCINATION, Tierarztliche Umschau, 50(11), 1995, pp. 748
The development of the oral immunization of foxes against rabies provi
ded novel opportunities for rabies control. In Germany such vaccinatio
n campaigns which commenced in 1983 resulted in a marked decrease in t
he incidence of rabies in foxes which were interrupted in increase in
the incidence in 1989 and 1994. Since the introduction of oral vaccina
tion strategies, two control campaigns have been instituted in the Fed
eral Republic of Germany. Proposals are presented which could lead to
the eradication of rabies in Germany.
