The kinetics of the heterogeneous catalytic reaction of lauril alcohol
and H2S on aluminum oxide modified with alkali at 275 - 360 degrees C
is studied. The reaction predominantly proceeds via the consecutive s
cheme: the reaction of lauril alcohol with H2S results in n-dodecaneth
iol, which then partially decomposes with the formation of dodecene an
d H2(S). A kinetic equation based on the postulated reaction mechanism
is obtained; the equation describes the process on the nonuniform cat
alyst surface.
