Abstract
Phenolic compounds in bark extracts of seven different clones of popla r trees were analysed by RP-HPLC with diode-array UV detection. The ch romatographic results obtained were treated by means of chemometric me thods to highlight any pattern in the data allowing one to discriminat e poplars in terms of resistance to the fungus Discosporium populeum. The phenolic compounds turned out to be more related to the genetic or igin of the clones than to their resistance.
