5,6-Dihydroxy-2-aminotetralin was resolved into its enantiomers by hig
h-performance capillary electrophoresis. The separation was performed
with a background electrolyte containing 18-crown-6 tetracarboxylic ac
id as chiral selector. The chiral recognition is based on a primary in
teraction between the hydrogens of the amino group and the oxygens of
the crown ether and a secondary interaction between the catechol and t
he carboxylates of the crown ether. The resolution factor was 1.42 and
the detection limit of the enantiomer present as impurity was 0.3%. D
ata on the optimization and the validation of the assay are also repor
ted.
