E. Goobar et al., LOW-NOISE PHOTON NUMBER MANIPULATION USING SEMICONDUCTOR LIGHT EMITTERS AND RECEIVERS, International journal of modern physics b, 9(26), 1995, pp. 3355-3385
The photon number (intensity) of a light beam can be read out and ampl
ified essentially without adding any noise. In this article we will de
scribe recent proof-of-principle experiments using simple optoelectron
ic circuits. We also discuss the significance of these results with re
spects to applications in communication and quantum optics. The relati
on to quantum non-demolition measurement (QND) strategies is also disc
ussed.
