Abstract
A review of those aspects of fractal geometry that are relevant to the planning and design of large networks is presented. The topics covere d include the modelling of urban morphology, characterization of the s patial distribution of the human population, analysis and simulation o f large networks, and estimation of the cost of a distribution network in terms of the fractal characteristics of the population distributio n.
