V. Enginger et al., INGUINAL MASTOCYTOSIS ASSOCIATED WITH HIS TIOCYTIC INFILTRATE, Annales de dermatologie et de venereologie, 122(8), 1995, pp. 536-539
Introduction. The diagnosis of mastocytosis is usually not difficult i
n cases with typical skin lesions. Intertrigo is exceptional. Case rep
ort. An 83-year-old patient developed inguinal intertrigo bilaterally.
The lesions contained maculopapulous elements without Darier's sign.
The histology examination revealed a mixed mast cell infiltration pred
ominated by histiocytes. The ultrastructure confirmed the diagnosis of
cutaneous mastocytosis. No extension was observed. Discussion. Skin f
olds are rarely involved in infiltrating diffuse mastocytosis. Two cas
es have been reported in the literature including one doubtful case. M
astocytosis should thus be included in the possible diagnoses in patie
nts with macupopapulous intertrigo. In addition, the mastocytic and hi
stiocytic polymorphism observed here is rare.
