A settlement analysis of a cohesionless soil layer subjected to an ear
thquake is presented. A theoretical solution utilizing Bessel function
s and based on the so-called densification model for amplitudes has be
en obtained. This permits to calculate the settlement under cyclic loa
ding. The simplified formula is also presented which allows for the fa
st and straightforward estimation of settlement. A numerical example i
s included giving the comparison of results obtained by different meth
ods.
