Gm. Cross et al., A SEARCH FOR DIRECT (CORRELATED) 2-ELECTRON EMISSION FROM URANIUM IN INTENSE LASER FIELDS, Journal of physics. B, Atomic molecular and optical physics, 27(7), 1994, pp. 1371-1376
A Ti:sapphire laser of focused intensity up to 2 X 10(15) W cm-2 has b
een used to search for direct (correlated) electron emission in atomic
uranium using the molecule UF6. The aim was first to use ion time-of-
flight (TOF) spectroscopy to provide evidence of correlated emission a
nd then to apply the electron-electron (EE) covariance mapping techniq
ue to confirm its existence. The ion TOF spectra did not provide suffi
cient encouragement to warrant proceeding with the EE coincidence expe
riment but suggested an approach that might be successful.
