Abstract
The authors have been engaged in an extensive program of fundamental a nd systematic research intended to clarify the effects of alloying ele ments on the oxygen absorption during are welding process. In this rep ort, the outline of an oxygen absorption behavior in iron and steel we ld metal during Gas-Metal-Are welding process is described on the basi s of the authors group's data. Initially the oxygen absorption behavio r of the pure iron weld metal is thermodynamically analyzed. The simil ar investigations are carried out for Fe-Si, Fe-Mn, Fe-Al, Fe-Ti, Fe-C r and Fe-Ni weld metal, and the results are analyzed. Finally, the oxy gen absorption behavior of the mild steel is also described.
