This paper presents the results of a study on a forecasting system of
irrigation water requirements which can support the operational work o
f administrators regarding water supply and water distribution in the
irrigation schemes. The system is formulated by using the fuzzy theory
based on analysis of the logic of water management which has been com
posed from the experience and knowledge of administrators, and is comp
osed on a personal computer to apply to the actual water management of
a paddy field area. From the results of field tests of this system, t
his paper demonstrates the strategy for forecasting which mostly depen
ds on the intuitional and creative judgment of administrators. The app
lication of the system to water resources management in a basin is als
o proposed.
