Abstract
In this paper, we present the natural extension of the Rogers-Ramanuja n continued fraction to the nonterminating very well-poised basic hype rgeometric function (8) phi(7). In a letter to Hardy, Ramanujan indica ted that he possessed a four variable generalization. Our generalizati on has seven variables and is, perhaps, all one can expect from this m ethod.
