Laser beam brazing is an alternative joining process which allows for
self-substance joining of components The fields of application include
s micro-laser beam soldering in the electronic industry as well as las
er beam brazing of larger seam profiles. The specific advantages of la
ser beam brazing are the high degree of automation and the minor therm
al stress of the components. During the laser beam brazing process, th
e working temperature is obtained by the interaction of laser radiatio
n and workpiece. Simultaneously the brazing metal is molten and wets t
he workpiece in the interaction area. Investigations of laser beam bra
zing of high alloyed steel are presented. The promising results show t
hat laser beam brazing can achieve high brazing qualities.
