Vacuum ultraviolet fluorescence emissions from the ionic excimer molec
ules (KrCs)(+) and (HeAr)(+) were studied in detail by low-energy elec
tron-beam excitation. Measurements were performed as a function of gas
composition, gas pressure, and deposited energy in order to investiga
te the kinetic mechanisms of these molecules. The rate constants of th
e formation and competitive reactions were determined from the observe
d fluorescence signal decay. Estimations of the total fluorescence yie
ld and of the gain coefficient for these molecules are given.
