Lainodon orueetxebarriai n. g., n.sp., reported here, is the best know
n mammal from the Maastrichtian locality of Lano (Spain). It shows clo
se affinities with Labes from the late Cretaceous of Spain and France,
with which it constitutes a new well typified suprageneric (familial?
) group of placentals, possibly related to the Asian Mixotheridia. Thi
s group, which remains to be defined on the basis of more complete mat
erial, is endemic to the Campano-Maastrichtian of Europe.
