An Upper Cretaceous to Paleocene planktonic foraminifera (36 species)
and ostracoda (39 species) inventory was drawn up in a section located
North of Sidi Bel Abbes. Six standard biostratigraphic datum planes w
ere individualized, ten ecozones or sub-ecozones of ostracoda were fou
nd. For the first time, in this area of Algeria, the Paleocene is incr
ibed in an irreprochable stratigraphic frame, and reveals a deep-dwell
ing ostracofauna, comparable to the one which is known in the part of
North Africa much further east.
