Abstract
The adsorption isotherms for CH4, CF4, and SF6 are measured at three o r four temperatures near ambient on three commercial activated carbons . The data are reduced using a virial-type equation of adsorption. Usi ng this equation, isosteric heats of adsorption are calculated. It is shown that this fundamental thermodynamic quantity provides a basis fo r differentiating between the carbons' micropore structures.
