Trogloianiropsis Iloberai n. gen., n. sp. is described from the floode
d coastal karst of the Balearic Islands. It superficially resembles la
niropsis Sars, 1897 and Janaira Moreira & Fires, 1977, but differs fro
m both in some remarkable characters. It seems to be restricted to the
deeper layers of anchihaline cave lakes, and shows a troglobitized mo
rphology (i.e.: absence of eyes and body pigmentation, and extraordina
ry elongation of antennae). Since its phyletic affinities are not clea
r, its biogeographic significance and possible derivation from deep-se
a or shallow-water ancestors cannot be established.
