High-spin states in Kr-76 were studied using the Fe-54(Si-28, alpha 2p
) reaction at 120 MeV. Two new level sequences with negative parity de
caying to known states in Kr-76 have been identified from prompt gamma
-gamma coincidences. The observed band crossings at a rotational frequ
ency of about 0.55 MeV/HBAR can be understood as a g(9/2) quasiproton
alignment in bands built on two-quasineutron excitations at near-prola
te deformation, in contrast to the g(9/2) quasineutron alignment at ab
out 0.75 MeV/HBAR in the previously known two-quasiproton negative-par
ity bands.
