Abstract
The maximum rate of fast axonal transport in motor axons at 6 and 24 m onths was measured in F344 rats. Tritiated proline was injected near s ciatic motoneurons and rats were killed after 2-5 h. Nerves were proce ssed for liquid scintillation spectroscopy and fast transport rates ca lculated. The rates, in 6- and 24-month rats, were 373 +/- 12 mm/day a nd 368 +/- 10 mm/day, respectively. Thus, the maximum fast transport r ate is unchanged with age in F344 rats.
