Reaction of unsaturated phospholipids, R(1)H=CHR(2), with D-2 in aqueo
us (H2O) dispersions with Pd-II-alizarin red as the catalyst results i
n formation of R(1)H(2)C-CD(2)R(2) (in addition to the expected R(1)HD
C-CDHR(2)); however, only the latter is formed with H-2 in D2O, which
reveals the importance of the reversible formation of an intermediate
alkylmetal species.
