Abstract
Borehole flowmeters are downhole tools that:measure axial flow ina wel l or borehole. Desirable flowmeter characteristics include low detecti on limit, a wide range of operation, accuracy, durability: reliable pe rformance, and a Small diameter and-length. The recently developed ele ctromagnetic (EM) flowmeter has these traits. The first portion of: th is paper presents the EM flowmeter design, provides laboratory calibra tion data, and compares the performance characteristics of EM flowmete rs to those of impeller and thermal-pulse flowmeters. The second porti on of the paper discusses applications of the EM flowmeter.
