The kinetic scheme of the alternating copolymerization of a donor mono
mer and an acceptor monomer complexed with an alkylaluminum halide was
studied to investigate the reaction mechanism. In the alternating cop
olymerization of styrene (St) and methyl acrylate (MA) complexed with
aluminum ethylsesquichloride (AlEt(1.5)Cl(1.5)), the kinetic data were
expressed by the following equation (1). R(p)=k(0)[MA](1.0)[AlEt(1.5)
Cl(1.5)](1.0)[St](0) together with the experimental observations the r
eaction mechanism of the alternating copolymerization was discussed.
