Abstract
The composition LaInO3:Bi3+ shows an efficient photoluminescence at ro om temperature. The results are compared to those for other perovskite s. Covalency, coordination number, and site symmetry appear to be impo rtant factors for the luminescence characteristics of the Bi3+ ion.
