A new general construction of one-dimensional Brownian motion is intro
duced. The construction is based on: (a) a general mathematical relati
onship that links arbitrary multinomial multifractals with the Gaussia
n distribution, and (b) the observed multifractal nature of one-dimens
ional fully developed turbulence. It is shown, via simulations, that t
he new construction provides realizations which satisfy all desirable
statistical properties.
