V. Bitsch et L. Ronsholt, CONTROL OF BOVINE VIRAL DIARRHEA VIRUS-INFECTION WITHOUT VACCINES, The Veterinary clinics of North America. Food animal practice, 11(3), 1995, pp. 627
Experiences with control and eradication of bovine viral diarrhea viru
s (BVDV) in large geographic areas have only been attained in the Scan
dinavian countries including Finland. in Scandinavia, the occurrence o
f BVDV varies greatly from a very low prevalence in Finland to a very
high prevalence in Denmark. The control programs, and the eradication
program in Denmark, are described and discussed. Particular emphasis i
s given to herd tests that can be used to indicate the infection statu
s of herds and also for surveillance purposes. In Denmark, where the a
nnual losses resulting, from BVDV have been calculated to be approxima
tely 100 million Dkr ($17 million US), the total costs connected with
the control and eradication have been estimated to be approximately 16
0 million Dkr or $27 million US.
