Abstract
A convenient synthesis of monoacetals of alpha-diones, i.e. alpha-keto acetals, was developed by silver ion induced alcoholysis of regiospec ifically formed alpha-bromo-alpha-chloro ketones. Similarly, the corre sponding alpha,alpha-dialkoxy ketimines were synthesized from silver i on induced alcoholysis of alpha-bromo-alpha-chloro ketimines. Both met hods provide an easy access to protected forms of alpha-diones, useful as building blocks in organic chemistry.
