Abstract
Photolysis of methyl yl-1,4-dihydro-1,4-ethenonaphthalene-3-carboxylat e (4) produces two di-pi-methane photoproducts m solution, but three d ifferent products in the solid state. The structures of (4) and an unu sual solid-state photoproduct methyl ydrobenzo[a]cyclopropa[cd]pentale ne-6b-carboxylate (13) have been determined by X-ray crystal analyses.
