Abstract
Photolysis of the title compound (1) produces a semibull-valene photop roduct dimethyl ,4]pentaleno[1,2-b]naphthalene-2a,8c-dicarboxylate (2) via a di-pi-methane rearrangement. The molecule of (2) contains a thr ee-membered ring and has geometry and dimensions similar to those of r elated materials.
