We examine the existence of universal elements in classes of infinite
abelian groups. The main method is using group invariants which are de
fined relative to club guessing sequences. We prove, for example: THEO
REM: For n greater than or equal to 2, there is a purely universal sep
arable p-group in aleph(n) if, and only if, 2(aleph 0) less than or eq
ual to aleph(n).
