Abstract
Barium titanate (BaTiO3) thin films have been deposited on MgO substra
tes by pulsed-laser deposition under various deposition conditions. Th
e films were characterized as highly oriented polycrystalline based on
X-ray diffraction analysis, atomic force microscope observation anti
the angular dependence of optical second-harmonic generation (SHG). Th
e second-order nonlinear optical coefficients (d-coefficients) of one-
eighth those of the bulk BaTiO3 crystal were obtained from as-grown fi
lms.
