K. Hunt et Jv. Hatton, SPECIFIC-GRAVITY AND CHEMICAL-PROPERTIES OF COMMERCIAL THINNINGS FROM6 SOFTWOOD SPECIES, Pulp & paper Canada, 96(11), 1995, pp. 50-53
The specific gravities of 17-to 26-year-old plantation-grown black, No
rway, red and white spruce, jack pine and tamarack from New Brunswick t
ended to be lower than those normally expected for mature wood of the
same species. Moisture contents were in excess of 50% (green wood basi
s). Extractives contents and one-percent caustic solubilities were equ
ivalent to or lower than those from mature wood of the same species. K
lason lignin contents ranged from 27.2 to 28.5%.
