Rg. Vardiman et al., EFFECTS OF CU ON THE CRYSTALLIZATION BEHAVIOR OF AMORPHOUS FE71CR15MO4B10, Journal of Materials Science, 30(22), 1995, pp. 5711-5715
Following the approach of earlier studies which have demonstrated that
nanocrystalline microstructures can be produced in soft magnetic allo
ys through the addition of one percent of Cu to Fe based amorphous pre
cursor alloys, it is demonstrated that substantial grain refinement ca
n be produced in alloys of interest for structural applications. Grain
sizes of approximately 50 nm were produced in the alloy Fe70Cr15Mo4B1
0Cu1. Such grain sizes should permit superplastic consolidation of pow
der or flake at reasonable rates with moderate die pressures at temper
atures in the vicinity of 650 degrees C.
