Single crystals of pure PbTiO3 were grown by a flux method using the P
bO-TiO2-B2O3 mixture as a flux solution. A mechanical detwining treatm
ent was carried out by applying pressure to the platelet edges of the
crystals in order to eliminate 90 degrees domains in the crystal. The
temperature and frequency dependences of the dielectric permittivity o
f the crystals were measured and analyzed. It was found that the diele
ctric properties of PbTiO3 single crystals were explained as a superpo
sition of the effects of dielectric relaxation, electric conduction an
d simple dielectricity. By analyzing frequency dependence of dielectri
c permittivity using an equivalent circuit, the relative dielectric pe
rmittivity tensors epsilon(11)/epsilon(0) and epsilon(33)/epsilon(0) o
f PbTiO3 at room temperature were determined to be 130 and 90, respect
ively.
