Re. Beever et al., VEGETATIVE COMPATIBILITY GROUPS IN COLLETOTRICHUM-GLOEOSPORIOIDES (GLOMERELLA-CINGULATA) FROM APPLE AND OTHER FRUITS, Australasian plant pathology, 24(2), 1995, pp. 126-132
Nitrogen non-utilising mutants were recovered from 32 strains of Colle
totrichum gloeosporioides (Glomerella cingulata) isolated from fruits
of apple and other species. Mutants putatively defective in the nitrat
e reductase structural gene were recovered from all strains, and mutan
ts putatively defective in molybdenum-containing cofactor synthesis fr
om 17 strains. Complementation tests between these two classes of muta
nts on a medium containing nitrate as sole nitrogen source indicated t
he presence of at least 11 distinct vegetative compatibility groups, i
ncluding at least six from apple.
