EVIDENCE FOR CRYSTALLOGRAPHIC NONEQUIVALENCE OF THE 2-2-1-2 AND 2-2-2-3 (4-PYRAMIDAL CONFIGURATIONS IN THE SYSTEM FE-57-BI(PB)-SR-CA-CU-O BY MOSSBAUER-SPECTROSCOPY(1))

Evidence for crystallographic nonequivalence of the copper site of the
(4 + 1) pyramidal oxygen configurations in the 2-2-1-2 and 2-2-2-3 ph
ases has been shown by Mossbauer spectroscopy in the system Fe-57(0.05
):Bi21-xPbxSr1.5Ca2.5Cu3.6Oy with x = 0.2-0.5. The distortion of these
(4 + 1) configurations, as reflected by the isomer shift and quadrupo
le splitting of the Mossbauer spectra, is discussed in dependence on t
he Pb/(Pb + Bi) ratio.
