Fifty-six ostracod species are recognized in the Hanonet Formation (Up
per Eifelian) and in the lowermost Trois-Fontaines Formation (Lower Gi
vetian) of the Glageon Quarry (Southern border of the Dinant Basin, Av
esnois, Northern France). The ostracods belong to the Eifel ecotype se
nsu BECKER (in BANDEL & BECKER, 1975) and two assemblages are recogniz
ed : 1. assemblage III characterizes a relatively quiet marine environ
ment below wave base on the mid-ramp setting (Hanonet Formation); 2. a
ssemblage II characterizes a shallow marine environment above wave bas
e on the inner-ramp (lower part of the Trois-Fontaines Formation). Com
paratively with other outcrops from the Southern border of the Dinant
Basin, the sea level fluctuations were of very low amplitude near the
Eifelian/Givetian boundary at Glageon. The study of sediments in Glage
on is consistent with the data from ostracods.
