Abstract
Transient characteristics of a van der Pol oscillator perturbed by add itive and multiplicative noises of different non-linearities are studi ed and compared systematically. We numerically determine the noise dep endence of the period and of the life-time of a noisy oscillator. Attr action basins and stability are also investigated for the trivial fixe d point and the limit cycle.
