Abstract
This paper describes new matrix transformations suited to the efficien t calculation of critical eigenvalues of large scale power system dyna mic models. The key advantage of these methods is their ability to con verge to the critical eigenvalues (unstable or low damped) of the syst em almost independently of the given initial estimate. Matrix transfor ms such as inverse iteration and S-matrix can be thought as special ca ses of the described method. These transforms can also be used to inhi bit convergence to a known eigenvalue, yielding better overall efficie ncy when finding several eigenvalues.
