Abstract
The antioxidant enzymatic system in brain hypoperfusion/reperfusion mo del in rats after spermine administration was evaluated. Incomplete ce rebral ischemia/reperfusion induced by temporal occlusion of common ca rotid arteries caused a decrease in the activities of superoxide dismu tase and glutathione reductase as well as total and free sulfhydryl gr oups, while thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances became elevated. A dministration of spermine after the reperfusion led to restoring all a bove parameters to normal values. Protective effect of spermine in tra nsiently hypoperfused and subsequently reperfused rat brain is briefly discussed.
